How to Properly Care for Your Lashes

Whether you’re new to lash extensions or a long-time wearer, it’s important to know the best ways to take care of your lashes so they stay looking great for as long as possible.

Lash extensions are delicate, and they need a bit of care to ensure they last. The question “How long will they last?” depends mainly on how you treat them, so following proper aftercare is key.

There are three main reasons why you should care for your lashes properly:

1. Lash Health: If you don’t take care of them, it could hurt the health of your natural lashes and slow down the growth of new lashes. Not cleaning your lashes regularly can cause a buildup of dead skin, leading to itchiness on your eyelids.

2. Appearance: Lash extensions look their best when they’re kept clean and free from mascara, oily makeup, or strip lashes. Otherwise, they won’t look as great as they should.

3. Cost and Time: If you care for your lashes properly, you’ll need fewer infills and won’t need to spend as much time or money on upkeep. Infills are charged based on the number of lashes that need replacing each time.

Do’s and Don’ts of Lash Care

DO

  • Avoid touching your lashes, especially in the first few hours. The oils from your fingers can weaken the lash glue and cause strain on the lash root.
  • Keep your lashes dry for at least 24 hours. Don’t wash your hair during this time, but if you must, use lukewarm water and keep water away from your eyes. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and steam for 24 hours after your lash application. On hot and humid days, try to stay away from excessive heat and sweat.
  • After the 24-hour mark, your lashes are waterproof. However, frequent exposure to steam or rubbing them after swimming will cause them to wear down faster, so be gentle when drying them.
  • If your face is oily, use blotting papers or mattifying lotions to control the oil. Choose oil-free products, especially eye makeup removers and cleansers. We recommend LashGame’s safe aftercare range for eyelash extensions.
  • Clean your lashes properly at least a few times a week with LASHGAME’s foaming lash cleanser.
  • Inform us before your infill appointment if you think you’ll need more time, have lost more lashes than expected, or want to upgrade to a thicker set or more lashes.
  • Feel free to ask us any questions or voice concerns. We’re happy to assist!

DON’T

  • Don’t play with or pull at your lashes, as this can damage your natural lashes. Rubbing your eyes roughly can also cause damage.
  • Avoid using oily products near your eyes, such as facial cleansing oils, coconut oil, or micellar water.
  • Don’t use waterproof or oil-based mascara or eyeliner. Felt-tip or pen-style liquid liners are usually safe. We also offer suitable makeup products in our store.
  • Don’t wipe your lashes with baby wipes, makeup wipes, or cotton pads.
  • Don’t try to remove your lashes yourself, as it could harm your natural lashes. We can help you remove them safely.
  • Don’t apply strip lashes over your extensions unless you’re okay with losing some natural lashes while removing them.
  • Avoid using eyelash curlers. Your lashes don’t need them, and if you want a more curled look, we can adjust the curl during infill appointments.
  • Don’t attempt to light a cigarette on your toaster or stove (general advice, but it will also save your lashes from being singed).

What’s Normal and What’s Not

What’s Normal

  • After lash application, some people may experience minor redness or dry eyes, especially if they have sensitive skin. This usually disappears within an hour, but contact us if you have concerns.
  • It’s normal to lose 1-5 lashes each day. This is because extensions fall out with the natural lash when it’s ready to shed. Sometimes, you may notice more lashes falling out, but it doesn’t mean all your lashes will fall out.
  • Lash growth cycles vary from person to person. Some people may shed lashes faster during certain months. This usually means more new growth, and we’ll see new lashes when you come for your next appointment.
  • Every set of lashes is unique. We customize them to fit your eye shape, natural lash condition, and personal style. Your lashes will look different from your friend’s, even if you ask for the same style.
  • You’ll typically need an infill every 2-4 weeks, with most clients returning every 3 weeks. Sets with more lashes (glam or volume) tend to last longer than those with fewer lashes (full or lite). Shorter lashes tend to last longer than longer lashes.

What’s Not Normal

  • If you experience severe itching, redness, or swelling around your eyes in the first few days, this could indicate an allergic reaction. Though rare, please contact us if you’re concerned.
  • A red streak on the lower part of your eye within the first few days might suggest sensitivity to the under-eye pads used during your lash application. This is uncommon but usually clears up in a few days. Let us know if this happens, and consult a pharmacist for advice. We can adjust future treatments for you.
  • If you notice excessive shedding of your extensions in the first 3 days, please contact us. We can troubleshoot or assess your lashes.
  • If your eyes feel gritty or sandy after wearing lashes for a while, it could mean you need to clean them more often. Regular cleaning with a lash wash should resolve this issue. Let us know if you need tips on the best cleaning routine.

Infills

To keep your lashes looking their best, you will generally need an infill every 2-4 weeks. The timing can depend on several factors:

  • The more lashes we apply, the longer they tend to last (because there are more to shed).
  • Shorter lashes usually last longer than longer ones and tend to grow out neater.
  • How you treat your lashes and your makeup habits can also affect how long they last.
  • Your skin type can impact lash retention—oilier skin tends to shed lashes faster, while dry skin tends to hold onto them longer.

We can infill your lashes up to 4-5 weeks, as long as at least one-third of your lashes are still intact. Please let us know if you need more time or want to add any additional services.

Before Your Next Infill Appointment

  • It’s a good idea to book in advance, especially for evening or weekend slots, as they tend to fill up quickly.
  • Let us know if you want any changes, like upgrading to a thicker set or trying volume lashes. These will require extra time during your appointment.
  • Make sure your eyes are clean and free of makeup. Unclean lashes (including unseen lash mites) can affect how well the extensions bond and may shorten their lifespan. Arrive 5-10 minutes early to remove makeup if needed.
  • Please don’t bring small children (under 10) to the appointment. Older children are welcome as long as they can sit quietly. Our salon is not suitable for children who need constant attention, as there are chemicals and equipment in the space. We aim to provide a relaxing and safe environment for everyone.
